Radiesse Dermal Filler

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is an FDA approved injectable filler composed of calcium hydroxylapatite, which lasts one to one in a half years. Because it is not animal based, there is no allergy testing required prior to treatment. Calcium hydroxylapatite is biodegradable, so it is safely absorbed by your body over time.  It is called a soft-tissue filler because it is used to “fill in” wrinkles, furrows and depressions in the face that makes us look older.  Radiesse is not harmful to the body and can be broken down by the body.

What does Radiesse treat?

Radiesse can be used for the lines found around the mouth, those parentheses lines we often see near the corners of the mouth. It is also useful for treating the area around the nose. These parts of the face can be of special concern for many of my patients as they age. Lines and wrinkles in these portions of the face can stand out and using a filler like Radiesse can be helpful for treating them. Depressed scars can also be filled in with fillers like Radiesse.

How long with Radiesse last?

After injection of Radiesse, your body’s skin cells grow around the calcium hydroxylapatite particles. The Radiesse acts like scaffolding through which the body’s cells grow. Within about a week, the injectable becomes integrated into the skin. As part of the skin, the implant does not move and is very durable, lasting 12-18 months.  The result is a soft, pliable filled area, which looks natural. After about one and a half years your body absorbs the filler and the injections can be repeated, meaning that the treated area can be adjusted to compliment the changes that occur in your face over time.  Individual results may vary, affected by age, metabolism, skin type, lifestyle and muscle activity.

How will you look after Radiesse?

You will see some mild swelling or redness at the injection sites that may last 1-3 days. In most cases, you can return to your routine activities immediately following the procedure.  At Solutions, will provide you with any specific instructions.
